The right professional supervisor is someone who understands the work you do, and who you feel safe enough to be open with. On Supriva, matching does the searching for you. You answer a few questions about your profession, your registration and your practice, supervisors answer the same questions about theirs, and Supriva introduces you to supervisors who fit your work and whose sessions will count towards your hours.
How matching works
When you join as a practitioner, you tell us which association you are registered with, the kind of work you do, the clients and settings you know best, and what you would like from supervision. Supriva then suggests supervisors whose experience and approach suit yours, and supervisors your association recognises. You can read each supervisor’s profile, see how they work and book a first session when you are ready.
What makes a supervisor’s sessions count
Each association recognises supervisors in its own way, and Supriva’s matching applies these rules for you:
| Association | Who can supervise you |
|---|---|
| ACA | An ACA Registered Supervisor, from the ACA College of Supervisors, or a Recognised Supervisor who meets the criteria in the ACA Supervision Policy |
| PACFA | A supervisor with competencies equivalent to PACFA’s Supervision Training Standards, who is a PACFA clinical registrant or registered with a relevant body such as AASW or ACA Level 3 or 4, under the Clinical Supervision Standard. PACFA recommends a Certified Supervisor, as its College of Supervision FAQs explain. |
| AASW | A qualified social worker, preferably with the Accredited Supervisor credential and at least 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience, under AASW’s CPD requirements |
Every supervisor’s profile shows which associations recognise them as a supervisor, so you can see at a glance that your hours will count. If you are ever in doubt, please check with your association.
Look for a good fit, as well as the right standing
Read how each supervisor describes their approach, the modalities they know well and the supervisees they understand best. If you work with couples, children, trauma or in a particular setting, a supervisor with experience there will help you grow.
Already have a supervisor?
You can find them on Supriva by name, or send them a link to join, and keep working together just as you do now.
